PE4C unavailable - should I get EXP GDC instead?

Hello. It's my first post here.
I want to build a eGPU rig with my Dell E6330 (i5 3320m) through the ExpressCard module.
I was planning to get the PE4C adapter as it seems to be the most reliable adapter. However, the bplus site shows, that they are out of stock. I sent them an email about the possible time of restocking, but I didn't get any response.
I plan on running a GTX 670 in x1.2opt mode. Will this be possible without too much hussle and issues with the EXP GDC v8.0 adapter?

Dell Precision M4500, Clueless about eGPUs

So I will just go ahead and say outright that I know far less about computer than I thought I did after researching how to work with an eGPU.

At this point I'm just looking to connect a basic graphics card setup to my laptop so that I can run games that require DX11 (which my integrated graphics does not support)

After looking at threads and how-to's I feel even more lost than before. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hey guys, my first post here. I have been reading a lot about the possibility of an eGPU to increase the performance of my laptop. Unfortunately I have no found anyone anywhere that has tried this with an Inspiron 5735 (Front of the laptop actually shows "M731R", but dell system detect lists as 5735). Can anyone tell me if an eGPU would be compatible with my laptop?

My system has a mPCIe slot (I will just remove the wireless card and use a usb alternative). Running an AMD A8-5545M APU with...

After several false starts, thunderbolt 3 will finally officially support external GPU (eGPU) - This is only possible with Intel's endorsement. This mean we'll soon find affordable aftermarket eGPU enclosure base on thunderbolt 3 with hot-plugging capability through USB 3.1

My intent is to show the following setup is as easy as 1-2-3 by just plugging the components into the laptop without any additional software.

If you wanted to setup an eGPU with the DELL L702X 3D edition and was hesitant, go for it because it is super easy, and the results are absolutely amazing.

The following setup is completely possible with just PLUG and PLAY without any errors from Windows 7:

Does a Thunderbolt 3 to PCIE x16 (x4 electrically) slot adaptor exist? If so link?

If is doesn't exist why not? is it even possible (within reason)? will it ever exist? any news/rumors?

I ask because such a adaptor would allow unlimited freedom with no limits on gpu card size (no enclosure clearance limits), power draw (use any desktop psu) and cooling solution (diy custom cooler mounting).

eGPU's Ready for VR

At the moment I have a 980m 8GB GPU on a Sager NP9758-G 6700K, 64 GB RAM which says it isn't ready for VR.

So my questions are:

Are there any eGPU's currently on the market now that will enable me to use VR (Vive, Oculus)?

Is there a GPU upgrade coming out anytime soon that I can replace in my laptop to use VR?.

Just wanted to post this here for fellow EGPU users. I wanted to give my kid a steam account, and I wanted to use my computer back. We had an old Toshiba Qosimo in the house and I figured I'd try to put a egpu on it. I upgraded to the latest v.290 (from 2010 LOL) I took the egpu set up I was using and used the expresscard version and set it up. I got the infamous code 12 error and dreaded the DSDT override. I went toTechnoinferno, and started to read, and read (ahhhhh) it looked realllll...

Is there any feature to either cards manufacturer to make one prefer Nvidia or Amd over the other when it comes to eGPU ?

do both allow playing games on the laptop screen without having to use an external screen ?

or is there a feature that makes one more suitable for eGPU solutions ?

I am planning for the future, and thinking of either:
- AMD RX 480
- Nvidia GTX 1060

and strongly leaning to Rx 480, because of better price and better dx12 and vulkan performance.

Hello ,

I have a one year old mac pro retina 2015 , the one with dual graphic card m the iris and radeon 370.
i know that an external GPU is possible via thunderbolt , but i also want to install windows on an external hard disk , and i figured that having a GPU on one thunderbolt enclosure and windows on another SSD may be too slow ?? (don't know I'm just asking)
So are there enclosures that can share both at the same time and can be connected with 2 thunderbolts so in case for some heavy...

Seeing how the topic of external video cards for laptops is not taking any meaningful direction(amazingly) i decided to start a thread that talks about realistic solutions and hopefully attracts enough savvy people to get the ball rolling.
